Copenhagen
Last Thursday another program participant and I got on a train and rode up to Copenhagen, switching in Hamburg. Most important to note is that the train goes right onto the ferry!!! WHAT?!?! So amazing.
We stayed with the lovely Jan Marie, and ran around seeing Elsingor (Wendy, I hope you're reading this!), Malmo (city in Sweden), the canal tour, old manuscripts, jazz, the hippy refuge Christiana (never has pot been so easily accessible! Crazy), the graveyard holding Hans Christian Anderson, the Christ statue in one of the churches (replica is in the visitor's center in Salt Lake), lots of bikers, and really good Danishes!
I also saw an old lady at church on Sunday that looked very similar to the photos of my Danish Great Grandmother. It was amazing. The people were tall and lanky and blond, and I fit right in.
Perhaps the best part of the weekend was seeking refuge from the rain in a cafe in Malmo. A man walked in where we were ordering who looked like he had stepped out of a J Crew catalogue. We ended up sitting near him, and I suddenly had the urge to snap a photo of the quaint architecture of the cafe, conveniently centering this man in the center. I now have this fabulous photo of this hottie, with my two friends pointing and smiling in the background. The Swedes probably hate the US because of that lunch, but whateves. It was awesome. It was the first, but definitely not the last paparazzi moments of the weekend. :)
